Candace's Story

Early Life

If you have a minute or two, I would love to tell you a little bit about myself. Lynn, my mother, was born and raised in Yonkers, NY. Scott, my father, moved around a lot because my grandpa was in the U.S. Navy.  Both my parents ended up in Oklahoma and were set up on a date by my grandmother, my mom’s mom, and now I guess you can say the rest is history.  My parents decided to settle in Owasso, OK, thinking this was just the kind of town that would be great to raise my two brothers and me.

When I was four, my parents decided to sign me up for recreational soccer, which ended up becoming a big part of my life. When I entered into high school, I decided to try out for the Lady Rams soccer team and made the Candaceteam my freshman year. I remember to this day the excitement I felt when I saw my name on the list of players that made the team! I also played competitive soccer on the weekends, which gave me the privilege of being able to travel all around the United States to play in tournaments. While traveling, I had many opportunities to meet and reach out to college coaches with the intentions of potentially playing collegiate soccer in my future. After visiting several colleges, Oklahoma was where my heart lay so I decided on Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. After three years of collegiate soccer and several surgeries later, I had to end my love of playing soccer, but those 16 years of playing were some of the best years of my life.

I transferred for my final year of college to Northeastern State University, the Broken Arrow campus, and in 2009 I graduated with my bachelor’s in business marketing.  I now have two daughters, Leighton and Lindlee, who have become my world. Most of our weeknights and weekends are spent either at the soccer fields or jiu jitsu.  I guess you can say I am a “soccer mom” and I love every minute of it. When we have a weekend off, our time is spent fishing, outdoors, or tent camping.

Today

IMG_1658I worked in the medical field for several years and pursued nursing as a career, but eventually, I decided that wasn’t the path for me and my family.  The work hours were not great for me to be the mom I wanted to be for my girls.  I left the hospital where I worked and joined the Owasso Reporter as a marketing consultant.  I got to meet lots of business owners in Owasso and one of those people was Mike Westerman.  We had spoken many times but one specific time a conversation about work ethics came up and where we wanted to be in the future.  At the time neither one of us looked at it as we were interviewing each other, but after the conversation, I realized his passion for his clients and his business.  I wanted to be a part of that and asked him if he would consider hiring me to be his assistant.  He obviously said “Yes” and it has been great for both of us ever since.

I am very proud to say I am an Owasso Ram and an alumna of Owasso High School and look forward to raising my girls in the town I love.
